If you couldn't join us in person —or want to revisit the session— you can now watch Javier Hermosa's "Bitcoin Mining & The Grid: Can Bitcoin Prevent Blackouts?" full presentation from our last meetup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6exAUTKYwgA We hope you find it valuable, and we look forward to seeing you at our next meetup.

Description

New Barcelona Bitcoin Hub (BBH) meetup! In April we’ll explore one of the most important — and misunderstood — intersections in the Bitcoin ecosystem: Bitcoin mining and the future of the electricity grid. We’ll be joined by Javier Hermosa, from the Braiins, team one of the longest-running and most respected companies in the Bitcoin mining industry. In this session, Javier will explain how Bitcoin mining can play a crucial role in stabilizing modern electricity grids, especially as renewable energy and AI-driven demand reshape the global energy landscape. The talk will cover how electricity grids work, the difference between traditional inertial generation and modern renewable-heavy systems, and why increasing renewable penetration can introduce new instability challenges. Using real-world examples such as the Texas and Spanish blackouts, the Braiins team will explore why flexible loads like Bitcoin mining are becoming increasingly important for the grid of the future. We’ll also discuss how mining software and operations tools developed by Braiins make Bitcoin mining even more adaptable as a flexible energy consumer — potentially helping renewables, AI infrastructure, and grid stability coexist. As always, we’ll gather at the Barcelona Finance Hub for an evening of Bitcoin, learning, and conversation — followed by networking drinks and our usual post-event dinner for those who want to continue the discussion. Event agenda: 18:00 → Doors open 18:30 → Event introduction 18:45 → Bitcoin Mining and the Grid: The Future of the Electricity Grid 19:30 → Networking, drinks and terrace 20:45 → End of the event 21:00 → Dinner at Oassis Restaurant in front of the event venue
